Carefree Work written by Sophie, Zara and Amber (work performed by Becci and Katy), and Merlin, Mike, Zena
Unable to give full names due to status as looked after young people
Group Sorry Poem.
I’m sorry for modding my car, but now it looks cooler than before.
I’m sorry for stealing the strongbow, I wanted to forget myself,
I’m sorry for staying out late but I need my freedom,
I’m sorry I threw my brother in the tree, he’s still there like a huge peach.
I’m sorry about love, but it just felt right,
I’m sorry for writing the letter, I just wanted to tell you how I felt.
I’m sorry.
Merlin- Sadness
If sadness was an animal, it would be a tiger.
If it was the weather, it would be raining,
If it had a taste, it would be sweet candy.
If I could drink it , it would be absinthe.
Zena- Sexual Feelings
If I was an animal with sexual feelings
It would be a monkey that can’t control itself
If I was the weather I would be a volcano explosion
As it spreads its feelings everywhere
If I was a music it would be a romance, to hit your feelings
If I was a taste I would be steam, as it’s hot and dreamy
If I was a landscape I would be a beach as it is romantic.
Amber -Anger
Anger is a tiger, roaring , biting, with scratching claws,
Scarey and stressey.
Anger is a storm,
Rain, wind, darkness, wind, clouds, thunder and lightening.
Anger is drums with a heavy beat banging.
Anger is a hot spicy taste.
Anger is jagged rocks, a choppy sea, a desert.
Sophie- Sadness.
If sadness is a whale lonely in the sea,
If sadness was the weather, it would be cloudy, grey rainy day,
If it was music, it would be classical,
If it was a place, it would be the rainforest.
Mike. In Care.
You will always be in my heart with me
I’m not insane
But in pain
I wish I was allowed home
Where I’m never alone
You helped me through bad and good
I will come and see you,
Like I said I would.
I’ve got a home in a my heart,
To break it in two,
Just throw a dart.
Zara- Teenagers.
I am a dancer
A heart breaker
A door banger.
Merlin and Michael- Bin Bag
I had no suitcase
But they gave me a bin bag,
And in it I had,
Clothes,
Tobacco, my hamster, Jimbo
Photo of my mum.
I wish I had,
Nissan micra
My girl friend,
The care of a family to comfort
you, to feed you.
I would pack away,
Hurt feelings,
The past,
Thoughts running through my head,
Being trapped and isolated,
Having nowhere to turn.
Zena and Sophie- Care Is
A beautiful feeling
A listening sister
An older brother
And cultural fun
A home with rules
And health and safety
Where friends and romance
Can lead to love and freedom
Where friendly communication
Can give you a happy lifestyle
With a foster family
And a dissolving holiday
Care is an open door
That is warm and cosy
A laughable resort
Care has loneliness
And anger too
It’s like a volcano eruption
That pours out from me and you
So you try and be in our shoes
You will have the same feelings too. Care is all about YOU!
Merlin- Homeless man.
His hair is a Tsunami and trees blowing in the wind,
His beard is seaweed in a rough sea and a tangle of shoelaces,
He is a three legged fox hunting.
He is a haunted house, his breath is old fish,
His eyes are candles burning,
His heart beats slowly, about to burst.
Zena- Homeless man
His hair is like a burning sun
Rough seas, seaweed swaying
A stalking animal
A lions screwed up ball of hair
His mood is a stress tension of hair ripping
Tangled ropes, wires and a scratch of brambles
His face is mould on the window,
worn out and falling apart
cracked and piled
shattered windows in the wind
and cobwebs like his eyelashes flicker like dust
His house is an old spooked cracking building ready to fall
His breath burning wire running out of electricity
With puff of smoke
His vein is a popping wire through his skin ready to explode
His eyes are like a dark shadow, ready to explore
His mouth is a squeaky crackling door, hardly opening
His beard is a bunch of ants crawling in scrabbling leaves
His heart is a slow pumping machine,
helping him to breathe for another last word.
Bye
Merlin.
I’m sorry for the car modifications , but I want to look cool..
I like me food, so I’m off to Macdonalds.
Amber.
I’m sorry for stealing strongbow like ,
I wanted to forget myself for a moment.
I’m sorry for staying out late.
Zara.
I’m sorry for staying out late,
But I need my freedom.
I’m so sorry, but I really need my freedom.
I’m sorry I get pissy sometimes, but I don’t get my freedom.
Sophie.
I’m sorry for hitting me sister,
writing a letter,
staying up late.
I’m sorry for writing the letter,
I just wanted to tell you how I felt.
Now I have told you,
So it’s up to you.
It’s ok, you’ve got plenty of time.
Mike- I need you
I need you like a carer needs a child.
I need you like an animal needs the wild.
I need you like a social worker needs a case.
I need you like wonky teeth need a brace.
I need you like a care home needs an outcast.
I need you like a demolition needs a blast.
I need you like an addict needs a drug.
I need you like a baby needs a hug.
I need you like a book needs a cover.
I need you like a romantic needs a lover.
Basically I’m saying mum, I need you to stop.
Because I need you like a sheep needs a flock.
Get yourself together and pull yourself up.
Because me and the kids need all of your love.
Mike- Caring.
Carings just a thing,
Five years I’ve been in,
No need to be scared
Cause once your in
You will be cared
Caring, a family
To comfort you
To feed you
And love you,
That is why you should not be scared
When you are in care.
If people hurt your feelings
Don’t listen,
They are scared of what happened in the past,
In a race, THEY will come last,
After all you’re not the fool,
That means, YOU are cool.
Group poem- I’ve got words
I’ve got words that’s tangled in my hair which can beat people up.
I’ve got words that sound like a frog in my throat that can tickle y tongue.
I’ve got words that come alive on the page, and that rhymes with other words.
I’ve got words that make people cry because they won’t come out.
I’ve got words to write poems as they roll out of my mouth.
I’ve got words that swing tree to tree as they slide of my arm.
I’ve got words that can dance as they stretch on the elevator.
I’ve got words that can fit on a necklace even if it fills my heart.
I’ve got words
I’ve got words
I‘ve got words that come out of my mind
Does it come out of yours?

That’s such a powerful body of work – the authors should be proud of their words. Blimey, very moving – so many favourite bits….. like the group ’sorry’ piece, the ideas of sadness from classical music and a lonely whale, to the ‘got a home in a my heart, to break it in 2, just throw a dart, to the ever accurate ‘teenager… doorbanger’ – as my friend’s daughter is an Olympic champiion at! Sounds like you had some potent sessions and accessed lots of big things. Commendations to you and the writers, hope I get to see some performed live one day at another A & S gig.
