		<description>I went to Istanbul for Christmas.  Strange choice, my staunchly Christian uncle said, a secular country that has a predominantly Muslim population.  That was kind of the point, but we did find gorgeous Byzantine mosaics and old churches that lifted even the most unchristian of souls.  Christmas day itself was steadfastly unobserved.  We visited the former Ottoman Palace, had a sauna and ate fish and beer on Galata Bridge in the evening.  Perfect!
