Barracks Lane

So. My time in London has come to an end and I’m starting up again in Oxford. This happens to be where I live at the moment because I’m a student. The weather was so amazing today that I couldn’t resist cycling up to the community garden to take a look. I’m meeting with the people who work there on April 17th and will probably spend a good few days there generating new material. I’ve got the winter part down – snow, sludge etc – but I’m wondering what I’ll write about for summer. I think of it as a black month. Things getting too ripe and fat. I seem to associate warm weather with scenes from Walkabout (Nicolas Roeg, 1971).

I read at the community garden way back in November but was still slightly confused about the route despite the very handy map above. Took a wrong turning and somewhere and ended up on the green where large groups of men were playing incredibly enthusiastic games of football.

Then when I realised the garden was in the opposite direction, I went past some allotments.

Spoke to a man who was about to go in who seemed happy enough to talk to me if I came by again. There were loads of people there because the weather was so insane.

Finally Barracks Lane itself. Bear in mind I was taking these shots through the gate, so I couldn’t get the yurt which lies directly behind the gate to the left of the image.

On the billboard outside there was a poster for a festival coming to Oxford called WOOD in May. I would go just for this:

You’re right, a cycle powered disco sounds amazing:) I heard two people on the tube at the weekend talking about the tv show ‘Genius’ where apparently someone had the idea that prison sentences would be measured in kilowatt outputs not months and years….. so fitter prisoners could be out much quicker!

You mentioned the film ‘Walkabout’ – I saw half of it late one night a few weeks ago and it’s searingly hot and quite brutal, so I know what you mean about summer.

Enjoy Oxford and I look forward to reading more and the changing seasons too….x

Hilarious. Bicycles connected to the national grid. Better than water-boarding at any rate.
