WORK IN PROGRESS MALE B

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

This is the introduction to Male B again the first time you see or hear him is in his personal space.. his bedroom.

Walks into new Bedroom with box of personal items (pictures, trophies, etc)

I’m in a new ends, I’m in a new area

Territory unfamiliar but strangely similar,

I’m in a new ends, I’m in a new area

Territory unfamiliar but strangely similar,

Let’s be clear, I don’t wanna be here, (shouting to someone outside room)

I told her I don’t wanna be here!!!

But I didn’t wanna interfere,

Everything changed when daddy disappeared

Like as a kid on those sunny summer days,

When you wanna play and bask in those summer rays

But grey clouds approached,

You knew what to do now, but you still got ready.. hoped!!!

A few minutes….. later….. that’s right….Soaked

I didn’t even bring a coat

This, my room… ‘poxy’ an absolute joke

(breath in) That’s the smell of sadness

And thoughts that weren’t spoke

Etched upon the wall like a ‘sentimental quote’

“Home is where the heart is”…………

But I’ve been looking along time,

And I don’t know where my heart is,

I guess that’s when the new chapter started

I’m in a new ends, I’m in a new area

Territory unfamiliar but strangely similar,

I’m in a new ends, I’m in a new area

Territory unfamiliar but strangely similar,

As music reverberates around the street,

It suddenly hits me I’m in deep,

Strange glances, missed beats

My hearts adaptable trying hard to catch the beat,

A different pulse, a different pace,

I’m more use to the egg and spoon

But this seems like the start of a 100m Race….

Bang!!! Thoughts muffled stifled

Underneath the backfire of an exhaust pipe….

Deflated, tired……. Hot wired,

‘Souped up’ ‘revving’, ‘raring’ to go…. “wats up bro?”

Yo I’m cool man!!…….. This is cool damm!!!I think I’ll be alright!!

I’m in a new ends, I’m in a new area

Territory unfamiliar but strangely similar,

I will again post up an audio reading of this during the week. 1 gone

Welcome back, hope you’re doing ok – you know you’ve been in our thoughts:)
I bumped into Galaxy’s Dan Kelly last week in a bar and he said, ‘Oh, I’ve seen a video of you on Youtube’ – which freaked me out – to my knowledge I’m not on Youtube – I scanned my head thinking what have I been doing lately??! Turns out he meant your videoblog of our MPOY retreat from last year:) Small world eh? & He does the announcing at WBA ground, so I’ll be seeing him again there soon.
Anyways, good to read some of your words, like the 3 heads setup, and the tensions within each character – fertile territory for exploration. Some tasty lines already standing out – the ‘facade…peace in my yard’, ‘hoodie, in over my head’ and the ‘home is where the heart is’ idea linking in with Emma’s work with the hostel I thought subliminally.
Look forward to you expanding the female voice, Anna M’s questions will push you more in that direction – it is a challenge, and will be interesting to see how resisting the urge to rhyme at all times works out…. Jo Bell and I were laughing at my ‘Rhyme Whore’ tendencies at times…. I think I’ll get a t-shirt printed:)
Think there’s good potential in the diary device – I was in Brighton all last week, got back to B’ham friday and a mate had a free ticket for Elvis Costello and The Brodsky quartet gig (the first time I’ve heard classical music live.) He played arrangements of ‘Juliet’s Letters’ a collection of songs reworked from letters – the most powerful being one from a female soldier writing to him from the front line of the first Gulf War. It stood out as such a strong confessional piece that moved the crowd, and made me want to write. Diary’s are like a letter to your future self.
So looking forward to hearing more. You take good care & I love the images you use, I gotta learn how to post pictures v soon…..
