WORK IN PROGRESS
Saturday, April 18th, 2009 Since the last time I put some work up. I have changed my directions.. after speaking with my mentor and reviewing what I had written already, which was going down a more personal route as well as exploring the territorial issues in the places I live. I decided to ‘challenge’ my self more and find a more interesting way express it……….. So i have now gone down the route of a fictional story involving three characters, this allows me to still get across my personal thoughts on place as well as the whole ‘postcode’ war but with more scope to create a bigger picture… I feel!!! Let me know what you think!! First off let me explain a little about the characters (the characteristics of each are based on actual people I met)
Two male One female
The two males are from opposing sides of a postcode war the female is the little sister of one of the males
MALE A
A bit older and wiser has been involved in gangs for a while not deliberately but ended up becoming one of the head honcho’s due to… respect from the younger’s and also many of the ‘staunch’ and older heads now dead or in jail. Forever trying to live up to the family name. About 25 years old, does not work, from a broken home father was never around in and out of jail, has an older brother.. in jail but has a reputation.. This reputation or family name has caused problems all throughout his life from.. school to getting jobs etc… in a sense forcing him to become what he felt was expected of him but ultimately wants OUT!!!. Man of the house
MALE B
Parents recently divorced causing family, to move from the small ‘posh’ village to a ‘vibrant’ inner city. Young and ‘naïve’ easily led… New in the ends… he is on the come up.. wants to be known and liked by the older guys so is reckless… starting to gain a rep.. not a good one… not from a particularly tough background… had more opportunities than most he just looked up to the wrong people. Had an incident where he was ‘rushed’ and bullied by boys from the other postcode whilst visiting his (nan/dad/etc) which really ‘iniated’ his journey or dislike of the other postcode. 19 years old
FEMALE
Female is Male A’s sister, just turned 18, at college got her head ‘screwed’ on… forever trying to live down the family name. Quiet but dangerous when provoked… trying to find her independence.. in a family that are slightly overbearing and see her as the baby so she is over protected and in a place where she gets respect not due to her own merits but her families… ‘madness’ which can be a plus and minus depending on the situations.
THE STORY
The story tells the issues that arise in different areas… especially Inner city areas where territorialism is ‘rife’.
Male A is a bright lad.. but due to circumstances, environment, peer pressure has chosen a path… and in a sense created a ‘prison’ for himself… now he is abit older and seeing things from a different perspective, he is desperately trying to get out…. Can he change? Is it too late?
Male B is trying to find himself placed in a situation he has no control over.. he is now in a new area and is ‘enticed’ by the pace, the life, the status, the friends and extended family that he feels he now has.. He is ready to do anything for the area he has not long arrived in……. Does he realise what he is getting himself into?
Female is trying to be the ‘change’ and catalyst not just for her future but her family…. she see’s that life is bigger than her area/ends/ will her family and area ties allow her to fly or will they hold her down?
