Ladies and Gentlemen…
Wednesday, January 14th, 2009Welcome to the new look website! With a new look comes some new features, the first being more content after the jump. Click ‘continue reading’ below to find out more…
The first element we’re introducing to the blog is the ‘continue reading’ button. Having this means we can get more onto the front page – allows you to put in a picture and a piece of intro text. It couldn’t be easier to do. when you are writing your blog, just press this button
(its at the top to the left of editing window next to the the ABC with a tick) when you want to end an intro. Its like a page break - anything above the line will appear on the front page, everything after the line will show after the jump (geek slang for press ‘continue reading’)
Next – adding links. If you want to make a link to another site – just highlight the text with your cursor, and click the chain link button
. Another window will pop up. paste your link into the top box, and select open in new window in the second box labelled ‘target’. Don’t worry about the other two – then click insert. You can link any piece of text – like this. If you want to remove a link, highlight the text and click the broken chain.
If you clicked on that link you will have gone through to the gravatar site. Use it! Sign up and upload a picture – it takes about a minute, and you’ll then get an avatar next to your posts.
Finally Pictures, you blog entries will look much better before you upload them. If you are happy resizing them – optimum size is 570px across. If this doesn’t mean anything – don’t worry there will be an update on resizing pics later.
That’s it for now, there’s still more to do to the site, and suggestions are always welcome – so leave comments on this post or contact Naomi and Jen with suggestions.
Cheers!
ADDENDUM!!
PASTING FROM WORD-
Microsoft word is a bastard…. there, I’ve said it. It makes a web designers job very difficult. Luckily the people at wordpress have made my life easier by adding a paste from word option.
If you want to paste text from Microsoft Word, first….
A box will pop up telling you to paste (ctrl+v) your text from Word. Do as it tells you! If you paste straight from word it can make your post look rubbish or, even worse, make the whole site go crazy.
Thanks everyone!

Hi Zander,
love the new look and functionality.
How can I add podcast links to the main podcast widget on the front page?
And is that The Dude in your pic or are you that cool!

Hi Dominic – Unfortunately i’m not cool enough to wear a dressing gown to the shops – yet!
The podcast box is actually carried over from the old site – and I haven’t looked into it yet. Duly noted though.
Cheers!
